UP Textile Sector to Generate 1 Lakh Jobs, 40% Opportunities Reserved for Women
Uttar Pradesh Launches Skill Development Plan to Boost Textile Employment

Lucknow | June 27, 2026 : The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major skill development initiative to strengthen the state’s textile and apparel industry. Under the new programme, the government aims to create 1 lakh employment opportunities over the next five years. Notably, 40% of these jobs will be reserved for women, promoting greater participation of women in the workforce.
The initiative has been jointly prepared by the Handloom and Textile Department and the Vocational Education Department. It focuses on industry-oriented skill training to meet the growing demand for a skilled workforce in the textile sector.
UP Textile Sector Jobs to Receive Major Boost Through Skill Training
Government Targets One Lakh Skilled Workers
The state government plans to train nearly one lakh young people over the next five years. Officials believe that skilled workers will help attract more investments and improve employment prospects across Uttar Pradesh.
According to the department, Uttar Pradesh has already received 700 investment proposals related to the textile and apparel sector. These proposals are worth approximately ₹10,784 crore and are expected to generate more than 1,02,262 jobs.
As industries expand, the demand for trained professionals will also rise. Therefore, the government wants to prepare a skilled workforce before new factories become operational.
40% of Textile Jobs Will Go to Women
Women to Play a Key Role in Industrial Growth
One of the biggest highlights of the programme is its focus on women’s employment.
The government has decided that 40% of the trained candidates and employment opportunities will be offered to women. This step aims to increase women’s participation in manufacturing while promoting financial independence.
In addition, women will receive industry-specific training to improve their employability in modern textile factories.
Training Will Cover Modern Textile Technologies
Industry-Focused Courses to Improve Employability
The skill development programme will include training in several high-demand areas of the textile industry.
Courses will cover:
Textile Manufacturing
- Textile production
- Fabric processing
- Quality control
Garment Production
- Cutting
- Stitching
- Pattern making
- Fashion design
Technical Textiles
- Medical textiles
- Protective textiles
- Geotextiles
- Industrial textiles
Advanced Skills
- Textile design
- Digital manufacturing
- Modern production technologies
The curriculum has been designed according to industry requirements. As a result, trainees will be ready for immediate employment after completing the programme.
Digital Platform to Connect Skilled Workers with Employers
Job Matching System to Support Employment
The government also plans to develop a dedicated digital platform.
This portal will connect trained candidates directly with textile companies looking for skilled workers. After completing the training, candidates will receive certification, making it easier for employers to identify qualified professionals.
The platform is expected to reduce the gap between industry demand and available talent.
Why Uttar Pradesh Introduced This Scheme
Growing Textile Investments Create Demand for Skilled Workers
The government introduced the programme because investment in Uttar Pradesh’s textile industry continues to grow.
Officials say that Lucknow, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Bijnor are witnessing increasing demand for skilled workers in textile manufacturing.
Between 2022-23 and 2024-25, the department reportedly trained over 1.88 lakh candidates and certified more than 1.68 lakh trainees under various skill development programmes.
The success of these initiatives encouraged the government to expand training for the textile sector.
Textile Industry Expected to Strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s Economy
Investment, Employment and Women’s Participation Set to Rise
Experts believe the programme will support both industrial growth and employment generation.
As more textile projects begin operations, trained workers will find better career opportunities. At the same time, companies will benefit from a steady supply of skilled manpower.
The increased participation of women is also expected to strengthen the state’s manufacturing ecosystem and contribute to inclusive economic growth.
The UP Textile Sector Jobs initiative marks another important step toward making Uttar Pradesh a leading textile manufacturing hub. By combining industry-focused skill development, digital job matching, and strong support for women, the state aims to create 1 lakh jobs while attracting more investments into the textile sector.
With rising industrial investments and a skilled workforce, Uttar Pradesh is well-positioned to become one of India’s fastest-growing textile and apparel destinations.
