UP Cabinet Extends Deadline for Old Pension Scheme Option

Final Extension Announced for Switching from NPS to Old Pension Scheme in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow | 23, July 2025 : The Yogi Adityanath Cabinet has given major relief to state employees. It has extended the deadline to switch from the National Pension System (NPS) to the Old Pension Scheme.

New Dates for Old Pension Scheme Option

Eligible government workers now have more time. They can submit their option for the Old Pension Scheme until September 30, 2025. Earlier, the last date was October 31, 2024.

The appointing authority must now issue orders by November 30, 2025. Earlier, this was March 31, 2025. Employees must also close their NPS account by February 28, 2026, instead of June 30, 2025.

Final Chance for Employees

This is the last chance to switch to the Old Pension Scheme. There will be no extension after this. If any employee does not submit their option on time, they will stay under the NPS.

Finance Minister Can Make Changes

If needed, the Finance Minister can make updates to this rule.

One-Time Option Already Given

Earlier, the state gave one chance to employees. This was for those appointed on or after April 1, 2005, against posts advertised before March 28, 2005. They could choose the Old Pension Scheme once. The last date was October 31, 2024 to apply and March 31, 2025 for final orders.

More Time to Switch to Old Pension Scheme

Many could not use this option in time. Some appointing authorities could not issue orders on time. Now, these workers get one final chance to move to the Old Pension Scheme.

UP Government Wants Eligible Workers to Benefit

The government wants eligible staff to get the pension they deserve. But employees must act before the new dates.
