What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term railway redevelopment programme launched by the Ministry of Railways. The scheme focuses on creating world-class railway stations with better passenger facilities, smart infrastructure, improved accessibility, and designs inspired by local culture.

Instead of simple renovation, every station receives a customized master plan based on passenger traffic, future growth, and regional importance. The redevelopment also strengthens multimodal connectivity by integrating railway stations with buses, taxis, and local transport systems.

Railway Infrastructure Gets a Major Push

The redevelopment of railway stations forms part of the Government of India’s broader infrastructure strategy.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that railway modernization is strengthening connectivity, improving passenger comfort, and creating new economic opportunities. The upgraded stations are expected to support tourism, regional trade, and local employment while encouraging faster urban development.

Why These Redeveloped Stations Matter
