Lucknow | 26, June 2025 : In a major push to make the dairy sector more profitable and sustainable, the Uttar Pradesh government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The agreement involves NDDB taking over the operation of three major dairy plants and an animal feed production facility in the state.
Under the MoU, NDDB will manage dairy plants in Kanpur, Gorakhpur, and Kannauj, along with an animal feed production unit in Ambedkarnagar. The initiative is aimed at boosting local dairy production, improving efficiency, and enhancing farmer income.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the state’s commitment to making the dairy sector self-reliant, technologically advanced, and profitable for farmers. Criticizing previous governments for their neglect, he said, “With NDDB taking charge of these facilities, new standards of efficiency, transparency, and professionalism will be established.”
Farmers are expected to benefit through better pricing, timely services, improved marketing channels, and a thriving dairy ecosystem. CM Yogi also highlighted the role of the dairy sector in women’s empowerment, citing successful models like the Banmili Milk Producer Company in Jhansi and initiatives in Agra and Gorakhpur.
The Kanpur dairy plant, built at a cost of ₹161 crore, has a processing capacity of 4 lakh litres per day. The Gorakhpur and Kannauj plants have a daily capacity of 1 lakh litres each. Despite being completed earlier, these plants remained underutilized due to a lack of buyers and high operating costs.
The Ambedkarnagar-based animal feed plant produces 100 tonnes of bypass protein feed daily, aiming to make cattle feed more affordable and nutritionally balanced for farmers across the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s partnership with NDDB is expected to transform the state’s dairy industry through sustainable practices, better infrastructure, and institutional management, ultimately improving livelihoods for thousands of farmers.
