Uttar Pradesh Sanctions ₹2,000-Crore Budget for School Redevelopment
Massive funding aims to upgrade infrastructure, boost enrolment, and make Uttar Pradesh a leader in quality basic education.

Lucknow | 18, July 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a historic step to transform basic education. For the 2025-26 fiscal year, a record ₹2,000 crore will be spent on the Uttar Pradesh school redevelopment project. This is the largest one-time funding ever for the state’s basic education department.
Why This Budget Is a Game Changer
Firstly, this money will upgrade hundreds of primary and upper primary schools. Smart classrooms, computer labs, clean drinking water, modern toilets, MDM sheds, ramps, and safe boundary walls will now be built. As a result, students will learn in a better, safer environment.
A Clear Vision for Quality Learning
Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said the aim is clear — to improve schools structurally, technically, and intellectually. Moreover, the focus is on innovation and transparency. By doing this, Uttar Pradesh wants to become a leader in quality education. Every child should get equal access to modern learning tools.
New Model Schools for Higher Impact
In many places, schools with fewer students do not fully use their resources. Meanwhile, schools with more students often struggle with limited infrastructure. To solve this, schools with 500 or more students will now become ‘Model Schools’ under the Uttar Pradesh school redevelopment plan.
What Will Model Schools Include?
Smart Classrooms and ICT Labs
To begin with, every Model School will get smart classrooms and dedicated computer and ICT labs.
Libraries, Club Rooms, and More
In addition, there will be dedicated library rooms, multipurpose halls, and club rooms for group activities. Schools will also have ‘Learning by Doing’ zones, so students can learn through hands-on projects.
Better Mid-Day Meal Facilities
Furthermore, mid-day meal sheds will be bigger, cleaner, and safer. This will ensure that every child gets healthy meals every day.
No Wastage, Only Smart Upgrades
Director General (School Education) Kanchan Verma said this strategy will prevent duplication of work. Therefore, funds will be used wisely. More students will enrol, peer learning will grow, and children will enjoy experiential learning.
Building a Stronger Future for Uttar Pradesh
Above all, this plan will reduce the gap between schools with low and high enrolment. With improved facilities, every child can get equal opportunities. This bold step shows how serious the government is about shaping a brighter future for every student.
