Uttar Pradesh Scrappage Policy : Old Cars Out, EVs In by 2030

UP leads India’s clean mobility drive by scrapping old cars and switching to electric vehicles by 2030.

Lucknow | 23, July 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh scrappage policy will remove all government cars older than 15 years. Old cars pollute the air and cost more to maintain. The state plans to scrap them and use electric cars by 2030.

18,843 Cars Already Removed

So far, Uttar Pradesh has scrapped 18,843 vehicles. Out of these, 16,576 were government cars. The state has 15 scrap centers to do this work fast.

Goal: 100% Electric Cars by 2030

The target is clear. By 2030, every government car in UP should run on clean electricity. Offices can buy electric cars directly. They do not need long tenders or extra paperwork. This saves time and helps meet the target.

Benefits for New Buyers Too

The Uttar Pradesh scrappage policy helps the public too. New EV buyers get up to five years with no road tax. They also get money back when they buy a new electric vehicle. This makes switching to EVs cheaper.

More Charging Stations for EVs

UP is setting up 207 new charging stations in nine big cities. Kanpur will get an EV park to support clean car makers. This brings new jobs and helps people charge cars easily.

Clean Roads and More Jobs

The Uttar Pradesh scrappage policy clears old, polluting cars. It saves fuel, cuts costs, and builds new green jobs. By 2030, UP wants clean roads and an electric fleet. Old cars out. Clean cars in.
