UP Tightens Rules for School Vehicle Safety

UP Schools Must Follow New Safety Rules for Buses and Vans to Protect Students

Lucknow | 25, July 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has rolled out strict rules to boost School Vehicle Safety. Schools across the state must now follow clear steps to protect students while traveling in buses, vans, and hired vehicles.

Schools Must Check Vehicles and Papers

Each school must ensure that its buses and vans have valid permits. Moreover, they must have fitness certificates, insurance, and pollution checks. Without these, no school vehicle can operate. Following these rules is vital for strong School Vehicle Safety.

Safety Tools Now Mandatory

In addition, every school bus or van must have working safety tools. These include GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, a fire extinguisher, a first-aid box, and an emergency exit. Schools must inspect these tools often. Missing or faulty safety gear puts students in danger and breaks the new norms.

Drivers Must Be Verified and Fit

To strengthen School Vehicle Safety, all drivers must pass a police check. They also need a valid driving licence, a health test, and basic safety training. Therefore, schools must check all documents and training before hiring drivers and helpers.

Safety Committees Will Monitor Rules

Besides checking papers, each school must form a School Transport Safety Committee. This team must inspect vehicles, check driver records, and hold regular meetings. Keeping these records up to date is now compulsory.

Written Contract for Private Vans

Sometimes schools use private vans or taxis. However, these must have a signed agreement between the owner and the school. This deal must follow the law and include a valid permit. If a private vehicle runs without this, the school will be held responsible.

Schools Held Accountable for Any Lapses

Principals and managers are directly responsible for School Vehicle Safety. If an accident or crime happens because of carelessness or missing papers, strict legal action will follow. Moreover, the school’s licence can be cancelled if found at fault.

Schools Must Submit Monthly Reports

Meanwhile, all schools must send a detailed report every month to the local ARTO office. Officials will check these reports and monitor each school’s compliance with the safety norms.

Final Warning to Schools

The Transport Department has made it clear: break the rules, and the school can lose its licence. Therefore, every school must follow the steps fully to keep students safe.

7 Rules Schools Must Follow

  1. Keep permits, fitness, and pollution papers valid.
  2. Install GPS, CCTV, fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, and emergency exits.
  3. Verify drivers’ police record, do health checks, and give training.
  4. Form a School Transport Safety Committee and hold regular checks.
  5. Sign written deals for private vans or taxis and keep valid permits.
  6. Send reports every month to the ARTO office.
  7. Take full responsibility for any lapses.

Safer Vehicles, Safer Students

UP’s new rules show that School Vehicle Safety is non-negotiable. When all schools follow these clear steps, parents can trust that children will travel safely every day.
