UP Government Turns Barren Land into Farmland Under Kisan Samridhi Yojana

Big Push to Improve Farm Land in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow | 15, July 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh government will turn barren and waterlogged land into fertile farmland. This effort is part of the Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Kisan Samridhi Yojana, which runs from 2022–23 to 2026–27.

UP Will Treat 43,850 Hectares This Year

Plans for 2024–25

In 2024–25, UP will improve 43,850 hectares:

  • They will reclaim 35,600 hectares of barren land.
  • They will fix 8,250 hectares of waterlogged areas.

Today, nearly 24 lakh hectares of UP’s farmland sit unused. The state has 241.7 lakh hectares of total farmland.

Stopping the Loss of Farmland

Each year, UP loses 40,000–50,000 hectares of farm land to cities, roads, and industries. This plan fights that loss by turning unused land into farmland again.

Clear Budget and Action Steps

UP will spend ₹113.06 crore this year. The Agriculture Department created a clear plan. They will:

  • Level the land
  • Build bunds and check dams
  • Improve drainage

Focus on Key Districts

Where the Work Will Happen

They will focus on:

  • Bundelkhand districts: Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Banda, Chitrakoot
  • Western UP districts: Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut

These districts already run the Atal Ground Water Scheme, so linking the work is easy.

Helping Small Farmers and SC/ST Communities

The plan helps SC, ST, and small farmers.

  • Local teams will give barren or ravine land to landless farm workers.
  • The Revenue Department will help allot this land.
  • They will make old allotted land ready for farming too.

Support for Growing Crops

Financial Help After Reclaiming Land

UP will give farmers ₹7,000 per hectare to grow crops on the reclaimed land.

  • The government will cover 50% as a grant.
  • Farmers will cover 50% through work or materials.

Clear Monitoring of Results

Agriculture universities and the State Planning Institute will check results. They will track:

  • How much land grows crops
  • How much production improves
  • How much more land farmers use

A Stronger, Greener Uttar Pradesh

The Kisan Samridhi Yojana helps UP reclaim lost land, grow more crops, and support small farmers. UP plans to use every piece of land wisely and help farmers earn more.
