Uttar Pradesh Launches Motorhomes to Boost Ecotourism Experience

Uttar Pradesh introduces fully equipped motorhomes to enhance lodging options in tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries, promoting eco-friendly tourism across the state.

Lucknow | 25, June 2025 : Uttar Pradesh is pioneering a new approach to sustainable tourism by introducing motorhomes to improve lodging accessibility at tiger reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, and remote ecotourism sites. This initiative is expected to transform the state’s ecotourism experience and meet the increasing demand for accommodation in conservation zones.

Motorhomes in Uttar Pradesh: A Game Changer for Eco-Lodging

The concept of motorhomes in Uttar Pradesh was unveiled during a conference organized by the Uttar Pradesh Forest Corporation (UPFC), with active participation from the tourism department and private sector. Inspired by global best practices, these mobile lodging units will address accommodation shortages in protected areas where permanent construction is restricted.

Fully Equipped Mobile Homes for Comfort in the Wild

Each motorhome in Uttar Pradesh is the size of a standard bus and comes with modern amenities, including air conditioning, a compact kitchen, washroom, bed, and facilities for a TV and refrigerator. This design offers tourists an elevated level of convenience, safety, and privacy, even in remote forest locations.

Eco-Conscious Placement and Usage of Motorhomes

The UPFC has clarified that the motorhomes will be stationed in protected zones, near existing lodging options, but will not enter core wildlife areas. This ensures minimal ecological disruption while still providing visitors with a close-to-nature experience. These units are particularly useful when regular accommodations are unavailable.

Affordable and Safe Travel Option for Nature Lovers

Although the fare for staying in these motorhomes in Uttar Pradesh may be slightly higher than traditional forest rest houses, they offer added safety and storage benefits. Tourists can lock their belongings securely while exploring, and return to their motorhomes for a peaceful rest in nature.

Ready Before the Next Ecotourism Season

The UP Forest Corporation has already developed one motorhome and plans to roll out more before the start of the ecotourism season in November. The booking process and location planning are underway, with support from various sponsors backing the project’s growth.

Motorhomes in Uttar Pradesh to Spur Eco-Camping Destinations

Officials believe these mobile units can support the development of new eco-camping destinations in regions where building permanent structures is not allowed. This would significantly expand tourism capacity and promote eco-friendly travel options throughout the state.

Uttar Pradesh’s adoption of motorhomes reflects its commitment to innovation in tourism and environmental sustainability. By enhancing the infrastructure around ecotourism, the state is attracting more visitors while preserving its rich biodiversity.
