Lucknow Becomes Third Cleanest City in Swachh Survekshan 2024

Lucknow jumps 41 spots to become India’s 3rd cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2024, setting an example in urban cleanliness.

Lucknow | 17, July 2025 : Swachh Survekshan is India’s yearly cleanliness check. The Union Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs runs it under the Swachh Bharat Mission. This year, over 4,500 cities joined the survey. Officials checked 54 things to see how clean each city is. They also took feedback from more than 14 crore people.

Lucknow’s Big Jump in Ranking

In the million-plus population category, Lucknow got the third position in Swachh Survekshan 2024. Last year, the city was at 44th place in the above 5 lakh population group. So, it has improved by 41 places this year!

In this group:

  1. Ahmedabad is the cleanest city.
  2. Bhopal is second.
  3. Lucknow is third.

This shows how fast Lucknow is changing.

Award for Lucknow

President Droupadi Murmu gave the award to UP Urban Development Minister Arvind Sharma and Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal. The ceremony took place in New Delhi. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the people of Uttar Pradesh for this success.
