Uttar Pradesh and Japan to Work Together on Big Projects
UP partners with Japan for green energy, semiconductor, EV, and investment growth.

Lucknow | 11, August 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh-Japan collaborations are growing. Uttar Pradesh will work with Japan on green hydrogen and semiconductors. The plan will create jobs and bring new skills to the state.
Japan Desk for Investment Support
Invest UP will start a “Japan Desk.” It will help Japanese companies set up in Uttar Pradesh. The desk will give fast answers and clear help to investors.
Two Visits to Japan
Two teams from Uttar Pradesh visited Japan in July. The first team, led by Minister Suresh Khanna, went from July 20 to 26. The second team, led by CM Yogi Adityanath’s Adviser Avaneesh Kumar Awasthi, went from July 27 to 31. They met business leaders and city officials. They talked about making goods, clean energy, culture, and ODOP products.
Green Hydrogen Research Centre
UP and Japan will build a Green Hydrogen Centre. IIT Kanpur, IIT-BHU, and Japan’s University of Yamanashi will join this project. The centre will work on research, training, and new ideas. The team also visited Japan’s largest green hydrogen plant. It has a 16 MW electrolyser. Uttar Pradesh wants to bring this type of plant to the state.
Semiconductor Growth Plans
The Uttar Pradesh-Japan collaborations also cover semiconductors. Tokyo Electron Ltd, a leading electronics firm, may open a unit in the state. They talked about research, skill training, and transport in Noida and Greater Noida.
Electric Vehicles, Pharma, and Rare Metals
DENSO will build an EV motor plant in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Tanaka Electric Co Ltd may make rare earth magnets in Uttar Pradesh. A group of over 300 pharma firms discussed research and trials for new medicines. Uttar Pradesh will also start a bio-innovation cluster based on Japanese ideas.
New Projects and Investments
The plans also include a plastic recycling plant in Gorakhpur by Jent Company Ltd, starting in 2026. A CBG plant will be set up in Badaun with Suzuki Motor Corporation. Talks took place with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation for a new bank branch in Noida. New defence, food, and clean energy projects are also in discussion. The state will promote the Buddhist Circuit to bring in more tourists.
Stronger Future Ties
With these deals, the Uttar Pradesh-Japan collaborations will grow stronger. Uttar Pradesh wants to link the government, schools, and businesses. The aim is to make the state a hub for green energy, advanced manufacturing, and high-tech work.
