CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Immediate Reforms in Uttar Pradesh Power Supply System

CM Yogi reviews energy department, calls electricity a reflection of trust and demands urgent reforms in Uttar Pradesh power supply system.

Lucknow | 26, July 2025 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made it clear that the Uttar Pradesh power supply system is no longer just a matter of wires and transformers. It now represents the people’s trust and the state government’s accountability. While reviewing the performance of the Energy Department in a high-level meeting, he warned that tripping, overbilling, and unnecessary power cuts will no longer be tolerated.

UP Meets Record Demand Amid Scorching Heat

In June 2025, the state successfully met a record electricity demand of 31,486 MW. The power department supplied 16,930 million units, despite soaring temperatures and high humidity. Urban areas received an average supply of 24 hours, while tehsil regions got 21.5 hours. Rural zones had power for nearly 18 hours daily. This performance, despite extreme conditions, demonstrates improved grid efficiency.

CM Orders Technical Upgrades and On-the-Spot Repairs

To curb frequent power tripping, CM Yogi directed officials to carry out technical inspections of all feeders. Teams must identify weak links and reinforce them quickly. He emphasized the need to upgrade transformer capacity wherever overloading occurs.

Instead of reacting later, field teams must resolve public complaints within set timelines. The Chief Minister also asked officers to raise accountability at every level and warned against any form of negligence.

No Resource Crunch, But No Room for Negligence

The government has already provided a record budget to boost power generation, transmission, and distribution. Since funding is not a limitation, CM Yogi stated that excuses for poor performance are unacceptable. He personally reviewed power availability in all DISCOM zones and instructed MDs to improve ground-level delivery.

Accurate Billing Key to Public Trust

“Every household should receive a clear and correct electricity bill on time,” the Chief Minister stressed. Billing errors, including overcharging or false entries, severely damage public trust. The Energy Department must eliminate such issues.

So far, over 31 lakh smart meters have been installed. The government plans to extend this to block-level areas, ensuring transparency and automated monitoring.

Reduce Line Losses and Modernize Supply Systems

CM Yogi instructed all DISCOMs to create actionable strategies to reduce line losses. Each region must plan independently and execute improvements in phases. Where needed, they must modernize the transmission and distribution network to minimize waste and increase efficiency.

Power Generation Set to Cross 16,000 MW

At present, Uttar Pradesh generates 11,595 MW from thermal, hydro, renewable, and central grid sources. With upcoming projects like Ghatampur and Meja, the state will exceed 16,000 MW within the next two years. The Chief Minister stressed timely completion and continuous monitoring of these key projects.

Push for Solar-Powered Agriculture

To support farmers, the state is accelerating the separation of agricultural feeders and integrating them into the PM-KUSUM scheme. CM Yogi emphasized that all tube wells should shift to solar power. This move will ensure reliable energy for farmers and reduce pressure on the conventional grid.

A Power System Built on People’s Expectations

Yogi Adityanath concluded,

“Electricity is not just infrastructure. It reflects public expectations and the government’s resolve. Every citizen must feel that they are getting reliable, fair, and transparent power supply without discrimination.”
