Sambhavah 5.0 : UP Launches New Drive to Fight Malnutrition
New Phase Targets 100 Anganwadi Centres per District to Identify and Treat Malnourished Children

Lucknow | 16, July 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh government has launched Sambhavah 5.0, its fifth phase to fight malnutrition. The new drive started on July 7, 2025. It covers 100 Anganwadi centres in every district. The goal is to find and treat children under five who are severely malnourished. It also aims to reduce stunting with better nutrition.
Minister Flags Off Sambhavah 5.0
Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition Minister Baby Rani Maurya flagged off the drive. All District Magistrates must now appoint 100 nodal officers each. These officers will check the centres closely. They will track children’s health and make sure they get help.
Training and Monitoring Begin
On July 14, the nodal officers got online training. The very next day, Anganwadi centres began health checks. Officers collected data on stunting and poor nutrition. Now, District Nutrition Committees will review this data every month. The District Magistrate will lead these meetings.
Good Centres to Become Models
If an Anganwadi centre shows clear progress, the government will turn it into a model centre. These centres will inspire others to do better. The best practices will spread across the state.
Results from Past Drives
So far, Sambhavah drives have shown good results. For example, a recent survey in Noida found 789 severely malnourished kids under six. Over 3,000 children were moderately malnourished. Workers are now visiting homes every two weeks to check on families.
State-wide, more than 2.25 crore people have seen better health. This includes over 1.8 crore children. Around 1.33 lakh severely malnourished kids have received extra help. The government has spent ₹5,129 crore for this cause.
What’s Next for Sambhavah 5.0
- Nodal officers will submit monthly reports.
- District heads will review progress often.
- Good centres will set an example for others.
- The campaign may expand further if needed.
Sambhavah 5.0 Shows UP’s Strong Commitment
With Sambhavah 5.0, Uttar Pradesh has taken another big step to protect children’s health. This drive uses careful tracking, better centres, and strong follow-up. If it works well, more children will get the nutrition they need to grow healthy and strong.
