PNB Celebrates 77th Republic Day with Patriotic Spirit and Community Outreach

Public sector bank marks Republic Day with community outreach, sustainability initiatives, and recognition of excellence

New Delhi | January 27, 2026 : Punjab National Bank (PNB), the country’s leading public sector bank, celebrated the 77th Republic Day with pride and enthusiasm at its headquarters in New Delhi. The occasion reflected PNB’s deep-rooted commitment to nation-building, inclusive growth, and ethical banking.

National Flag Unfurled at PNB Headquarters

The PNB Republic Day celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Shri Ashok Chandra, MD & CEO, PNB. Senior leadership, including Executive Directors, the Chief Vigilance Officer, Chief General Managers, General Managers, and other senior officials, were present during the ceremony.

The event set a patriotic tone and highlighted the Bank’s role in India’s economic and social progress.

MD & CEO Highlights India’s Growth and PNB’s Role

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ashok Chandra reflected on India’s journey over the past 76 years. He emphasized that financial inclusion has played a key role in the nation’s transformation into the world’s fourth-largest economy.

Focus on Financial Inclusion and Responsible Banking

He highlighted flagship schemes such as:

  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
  • PM Mudra
  • PM SVANidhi
  • PM Vishwakarma

These initiatives have brought millions, especially women and first-time borrowers, into the formal banking system. With over 10,000 branches and more than one lakh employees, PNB continues to contribute strongly to this national mission.

Despite achieving a net profit of ₹5,100 crore and a business size of ₹2.9 million crore, he stressed that values like integrity, transparency, and customer-centricity remain central to PNB’s identity.

PNB Republic Day Celebrations Focus on Community Welfare

As part of the PNB Republic Day celebrations, the Bank undertook several outreach initiatives in collaboration with PNB PRERNA, an association of senior women officials and spouses of senior executives.

Support for Education and the Visually Impaired

PNB extended financial assistance to the National Association for the Blind (Delhi). This support will strengthen early intervention and inclusive education programs such as CHIRAG and JYOTI.

In addition, the Bank contributed to improving basic infrastructure at MCD Primary Schools in Nawada Main II and Chaukhandi Old II, Tilak Nagar. These efforts included support for classrooms, water facilities, and digital access.

Sustainability Takes Center Stage at PNB

Reinforcing its environmental commitment, PNB continues to reduce its carbon footprint through the PNB PALAASH initiative.

Green Initiatives Under Swachhata Pakhwada

Under Swachhata Pakhwada (January 16–31, 2026), plantation drives are being conducted across the Bank. Saplings were distributed at the Head Office to encourage environmental responsibility among employees.

Other initiatives include:

  • Energy conservation
  • Recycling programs
  • Paper reduction
  • Promotion of electric vehicle financing

Employees and Sports Achievers Honoured

During the celebrations, PNB recognized employees who displayed exceptional vigilance by preventing digital arrest frauds. Their timely actions helped protect customers from financial losses.

Recognition of Sporting Excellence

PNB also felicitated achievers in sports, including:

  • Ms. Pooja Gupta for international success in Boccia
  • Ms. Akanksha for securing first position at the Shooting World Cup 2024
  • Mr. Sushant Kumar for Power Lifting Championship 2025
  • Mr. Sudhir Saxena for Bronze at the National Kickboxing Championship 2025

Cultural Performances Add Patriotic Colour

The PNB Republic Day celebrations concluded with vibrant cultural performances by PNB employees. These performances added warmth and unity to the occasion, reflecting the Bank’s people-centric culture.

Through responsible banking, sustainability, and inclusive growth, PNB reaffirmed its commitment to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
