Taiwan and Vietnam Companies Plan to Invest in India’s Footwear Sector

Taiwan and Vietnam Firms Look to Boost Non-Leather Footwear Manufacturing in India

Lucknow | 14, July 2025 : Companies from Taiwan and Vietnam want to invest in India’s growing non-leather footwear market. The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) Chairman, Arkaj Jallan, shared this update. He asked the Indian government to make it easier for these companies to invest.

Why India Looks Good for Non-Leather Footwear

Demand for Non-Leather Shoes Is Growing

The world wants more sports shoes and synthetic shoes. India can make these at good prices and high quality. So, big global companies now see India as a smart place to set up new factories.

Government Help Is Needed

CLE Chief Wants Faster Action

The CLE Chairman said India must help these companies invest. He said the government should:

  • Make land easy to get
  • Give better roads and power supply
  • Offer tax cuts and other help
  • Allow easy import of new machines

He asked for a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for this sector. Other PLI schemes in mobiles and textiles have helped those industries grow fast.

Best Cities for New Footwear Units

Kanpur and Agra Can Lead the Way

Kanpur and Agra are known for leather shoes. But they can also become big centres for non-leather shoes. They have skilled workers and old export networks. Companies can use this to grow fast.

Why India Is a Good Choice

India Has Many Strengths

India offers low-cost workers. It also has a huge local market. The government wants to make doing business easy. This makes India better than China for many companies.

Exports May Grow 18% This Year

Big Export Goal

India’s leather and non-leather shoe exports may rise by 18% this year. By 2025-26, the goal is to cross $10 billion in export value. Right now, it is about $5.75 billion.

Local Businesses Will Benefit Too

More Work for Small Makers

When big foreign companies come, small local factories get work too. They supply parts, packing, and small items. This means more local jobs.

Steps India Must Take

The CLE wants the government to:

  • Start a PLI scheme for non-leather shoes
  • Make land and approvals faster
  • Build better factories and clusters
  • Train workers with new skills

These steps will help India become a big global supplier of sports and synthetic shoes.
