LDA to Take Over South City Development from Unitech
LDA ends 37-year deal with Unitech to revive and complete the 250-acre South City township in Lucknow

Lucknow | 14, August 2025 : The LDA to take over South City development marks a big change for Lucknow. The Lucknow Development Authority has ended its 37-year-old deal with Unitech Builders. It will now finish the township work.
Why the Change Happened
Unitech got the license to develop South City in 1988. Over time, it broke the agreement terms. The company went bankrupt years ago. Its office in the colony shut around 2010–11. Work stopped, leaving many tasks incomplete.
On August 5, 2025, the LDA board voted to end the deal. Now, LDA will complete the remaining work. It will sell Unitech’s unsold properties to fund this.
About South City
South City covers about 250 acres on Raebareli Road, near Shaheed Path. It has:
- Over 2,000 homes across nine blocks
- 18 parks
- Millennium School and LPS School
- Garden Galleria Mall
- Petrol pumps and shops
Many residents have waited for years to get proper facilities.
LDA’s Development Plans
LDA will:
- Build and repair roads
- Complete drainage systems
- Develop parks and public spaces
- Create a community centre
- Improve sanitation and lighting
An LDA official said, “We will ensure residents get the facilities they were promised. Work will be done without delay.”
What This Means for Lucknow
South City’s location is prime. It sits along Raebareli Road and just off Shaheed Path. With LDA’s work, the area will get better roads, cleaner surroundings, and reliable services.
The LDA to take over South City development will also bring back trust among residents. It shows that stalled projects can get a fresh start under proper management.
