LDA to Launch JPNIC Bidding Operation in Upcoming Board Meeting
Revival of JPNIC Gains Momentum as LDA Prepares to Invite Bids for Long-Stalled Mega Project

Lucknow | 30. July 2025 : The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will propose the JPNIC bidding operation in its next board meeting. This step follows Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive to put the long-idle Jaya Prakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) to use.
CM Yogi Steps in After Years of Delay
The JPNIC project, once meant to become a cultural and sports hub in Lucknow, has remained unused since 2017. Despite an investment of over ₹860 crore, the centre never opened for public use.
However, CM Yogi intervened recently and ordered officials to revive the project. As a result, the Uttar Pradesh government transferred its control to LDA and converted the past expenditure into a soft loan, which LDA will repay over the next 30 years.
LDA Plans Active Use Through Private Participation
To bring the centre to life, LDA will invite private players to manage it through a transparent bidding process. The JPNIC bidding operation will be carried out on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) or revenue-sharing model.
Additionally, a new committee of LDA officials and experts will prepare the tender documents. They will ensure that the process stays fair and focused on long-term sustainability.
What JPNIC Offers
JPNIC is a large, multi-use structure located in the heart of Lucknow. It includes:
- A massive convention hall
- A modern auditorium
- Courts for indoor sports
- Extensive parking facilities
Though fully constructed, the centre failed to open because of administrative delays and financial mismanagement. A government audit had earlier flagged irregularities, which halted further progress.
A New Opportunity for Public Use
Now, with the upcoming JPNIC bidding operation, LDA aims to transform the space into a cultural and tourism hotspot. The centre will host major events, exhibitions, sports tournaments, and public gatherings.
In fact, officials believe this revival will create new jobs, attract tourism, and provide Lucknow with a world-class venue.
What Happens Next?
LDA will table the proposal in the next board meeting. If the board approves, tenders will be released soon after. This will mark the beginning of a long-awaited chapter for JPNIC.
