Lucknow | 5, July 2025 : The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway is one of Uttar Pradesh’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Developed under the Green Highway Policy, this new expressway aims to transform travel between two major industrial cities — Ghaziabad and Kanpur.
Travel Time Slashed to 5 Hours
Currently, a road journey between Ghaziabad and Kanpur can take nearly eight hours. Once the 380-km expressway is complete, it will cut the travel time to just 5 to 5.5 hours. This huge time-saving will make commuting faster, safer, and more convenient for thousands of travellers every day.
Linking Ghaziabad, Kanpur & NCR Cities
Besides connecting Ghaziabad and Kanpur, the expressway will also link other NCR cities, including Delhi and Noida. This enhanced connectivity will support new growth corridors, promote industrialisation, and unlock fresh economic opportunities in the region.
Connecting Nine Key Districts
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway will benefit nine districts in Uttar Pradesh:
- Ghaziabad
- Hapur
- Bulandshahr
- Aligarh
- Kasganj
- Farrukhabad
- Kannauj
- Unnao
- Kanpur
By improving road links in these districts, the expressway will also boost local businesses and help the state attract more investments.
Supporting Tourism and Regional Development
Better road connectivity will also support the state’s tourism goals. Tourists will find it easier to explore historic towns, heritage sites, and industrial hubs connected by the expressway.
Integrated with Major Highways and Jewar Airport
Strategic Highway Links
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway will serve as an important link between National Highway 9 (NH-9) and the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway. NH-9 runs from Fazilka in Punjab to Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, passing through Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Moradabad.
Future-Ready: Access to Jewar Airport
As the Jewar International Airport develops near Noida, the expressway will offer direct connectivity, making air travel easier for people and businesses in central and western UP.
Four Lanes Now, Six Lanes Later
The expressway is being built as a 4-lane highway with plans for future expansion to six lanes. This flexibility will handle rising traffic volumes and reduce congestion on existing routes.
When Will the Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway Be Completed?
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway is expected to be ready by 2026. Once operational, it will provide a faster alternative for commuters and boost UP’s reputation as a state with some of India’s best expressways.
Uttar Pradesh: Building India’s Expressway Capital
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway is part of Uttar Pradesh’s larger vision to lead the country in expressway infrastructure. The state has already delivered major expressways like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Purvanchal Expressway.
With each new expressway, Uttar Pradesh moves closer to becoming India’s top-ranked state for world-class road connectivity, economic growth, and ease of travel.
