Uttar Pradesh Liquor Industry Conference Targets ₹5,000 Crore Investment

Big Meet for Alcohol Sector at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan

Lucknow | 9, July 2025 : The Excise Department of Uttar Pradesh, with Invest UP, will hold an investment meet for the liquor industry this Wednesday. The event will take place at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. More than 200 companies will join. The goal is to sign MoUs worth ₹5,000 crore during the conference.

UP’s Strong Track Record in Liquor Investment

Many Proposals and MoUs Already Signed

Nitin Agrawal, Minister of State for Excise (Independent Charge), said UP has received 142 proposals worth ₹39,479 crore for the alcohol sector through Invest UP. So far, the state has signed 135 MoUs.

Companies Investing and Producing

Till now, 46 companies have invested ₹7,888 crore. Out of these, 19 firms have started production. Their total investment is ₹2,339 crore. Another 27 units are being built.

Expansion Adds to Total Investment

Several companies have also expanded their plants. They have added ₹3,000 crore more to the total. With this, the state’s total liquor investment is now ₹10,888 crore.

Aim: More Liquor Production in UP

The new meet hopes to attract more investors. The goal is to boost liquor production and create jobs in the state.

New Excise Policy Brings Big Changes

Fewer Liquor Shops

The Minister said the state’s new excise policy has cut down liquor shops by 3,171 this year.

More Beer and Foreign Liquor Shops

At the same time, 3,392 beer shops and 2,799 foreign liquor shops have opened. Also, 2,791 country liquor shops in villages can now sell beer too.

Record Revenue for Excise Department

Nitin Agrawal said the department’s income has grown fast. Revenue rose from ₹14,273 crore in 2016–17 to ₹52,573 crore in 2024–25.

UP Leads in Power Alcohol Production

UP is the top state for making power alcohol under India’s biofuel plan. It now makes 182 crore litres each year.

Liquor Sales During Kanwar Yatra

District Magistrates Will Decide

On liquor sales during the Kanwar Yatra, the Minister said District Magistrates will take the final call.

Sales Behind Curtains

He said some districts may sell liquor behind curtains on Yatra routes. He added that local DMs manage this.
