Concourse Work Begins at Lucknow’s Charbagh Station
Modernization of Charbagh Station begins with a new concourse, impacting train schedules for 56 days during major infrastructure overhaul.

Lucknow | 2, August 2025 : The concourse work on Charbagh railway station has officially started. This project is part of the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to improve key railway stations across India. As a result, passengers can expect a modern, convenient, and more efficient travel experience in the near future.
What’s Changing at the Station?
To begin with, a wide concourse is being built. It will span platforms 1 to 6 and include:
- Escalators and lifts to improve access
- Wider passages for smoother crowd flow
- Modern signage and lighting for better visibility
In addition, a seven-storey building will come up at the second entry. This new complex will house shops, waiting areas, and ticket counters.
Temporary Disruptions During Construction
Due to construction, a 56-day block began on July 31. Consequently, many train services are being affected:
- 62 trains have been rerouted
- 42 trains are using new platforms
- Some services will now stop at Alamnagar, Aishbagh, or Gomti Nagar instead of Charbagh
Therefore, passengers are advised to double-check schedules before traveling.
What Passengers Should Expect
Throughout the construction period, travelers may face delays or platform changes. However, the railway has shared updated details through apps and display boards. Moreover, help desks are active at the station to assist passengers.
Why the Concourse Work on Charbagh Matters
This upgrade is not just cosmetic. In fact, it aims to handle the station’s high footfall more efficiently. Over time, improved amenities and space will reduce congestion and make travel more comfortable.
Final Note
Although the concourse work on Charbagh is causing short-term inconvenience, the long-term benefits will be substantial. Once completed, the station will meet international standards of design, safety, and convenience. So, passengers should stay informed and plan accordingly.
