Lucknow | 30, June 2025 : The Government of Uttar Pradesh and the World Food Programme (WFP) have announced a game-changing collaboration to establish an International Centre of Excellence on Food & Nutrition Science in Uttar Pradesh, India. This new centre aims to advance child nutrition, research, and policy-making for national and global benefit.

Background: How the Partnership Was Born
Uttar Pradesh’s Take Home Ration (THR) Initiative
This historic partnership took shape after Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Kumar Singh met WFP Chief Cindy McCain in Rome. Uttar Pradesh showcased its acclaimed Take Home Ration (THR) initiative — a flagship nutrition program run by Self Help Groups (SHGs) through 204 production units, reaching over 7.2 million women and children.
Recognition by the United Nations WFP
The WFP appreciated the THR program as a model for other Indian states and neighbouring countries to follow. Cindy McCain called it an inspirational example of community-led solutions for child malnutrition.
