AIMIM Eyes Uttar Pradesh After Bihar, Maharashtra Wins
Owaisi Steps In to Disrupt Akhilesh Yadav’s Muslim Vote Base

Lucknow : After registering notable success in Bihar and Maharashtra, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has now shifted its focus to Uttar Pradesh. The party aims to contest Muslim-dominated seats aggressively, which has raised concerns within the Samajwadi Party (SP).
Political observers believe the AIMIM Uttar Pradesh elections strategy could significantly reshape the Muslim vote equation ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
Bihar Victory Gave AIMIM Fresh Momentum
In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, AIMIM delivered a surprise performance. The party won five Muslim-dominated seats in the Seemanchal region. As a result, its vote share rose from 1.3 percent to nearly 2 percent.
More importantly, this gain came at the cost of the Mahagathbandhan. Both the RJD and Congress lost a section of Muslim votes. Meanwhile, the NDA benefited and secured 14 seats.
Owaisi’s Message to Opposition Allies
Following the results, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi openly criticized alliance politics. He said Muslim voters were treated only as a vote bank. According to him, parties must introspect and show real respect, not just offer tickets.
Maharashtra Local Body Polls Strengthened AIMIM’s Claim
Soon after Bihar, AIMIM repeated its success in Maharashtra’s municipal elections. The party won 125 wards across the state.
Key Urban Wins
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: 33 wards
- Malegaon: 21 wards
- Amravati: 15 wards
- Nanded: 13 wards
- Mumbai BMC: 6–8 wards
These results clearly showed growing Muslim support for AIMIM over traditional parties.
Owaisi Targets Samajwadi Party Directly
After the Maharashtra victory, Owaisi made sharp remarks against the SP leadership. He claimed the wins reflected deep Muslim dissatisfaction. He also stated that the “M” — Muslims — in the Samajwadi Party no longer belonged to Akhilesh Yadav.
This statement further intensified political tension before the AIMIM Uttar Pradesh elections battle.
AIMIM’s Focus on 100 Muslim-Dominated Seats in UP
AIMIM has identified nearly 100 Muslim-majority or Muslim-influenced seats in Uttar Pradesh. These include:
- Meerut
- Muzaffarnagar
- Saharanpur
- Bareilly
- Moradabad
- Lucknow
- Sitapur
- Ayodhya (Faizabad)
Muslims form around 19 percent of Uttar Pradesh’s electorate. Their votes influence nearly 150 Assembly seats. Even a 5–10 percent vote split could impact 50 to 80 seats, analysts say.
Political Experts See Trouble for SP
Senior journalist and political analyst Yogesh Srivastava believes AIMIM’s growing appeal cannot be ignored. According to him, Muslim voters have remained loyal to the Samajwadi Party for decades. However, AIMIM’s assertive entry could change this pattern in 2027.
Meanwhile, SP leader Shivpal Yadav has already ruled out any alliance with AIMIM. The party wants to avoid further vote fragmentation.
Will AIMIM Win or Just Play Spoiler?
AIMIM has contested elections in Uttar Pradesh before, without major success. Yet, the political climate has changed. Even if AIMIM fails to win many seats, it could still disrupt SP’s core vote base.
As a result, the AIMIM Uttar Pradesh elections plan may not crown winners—but it could decisively alter the outcome.
With momentum from Bihar and Maharashtra, AIMIM has entered Uttar Pradesh with confidence. For the Samajwadi Party, this signals a serious challenge. As 2027 approaches, Muslim voter dynamics may redefine UP politics in unexpected ways.
