UP State Legislature Monsoon Session 2025 to Start on August 11

Both Houses to Meet in August to Pass Key Bills and Complete Legislative Work

Lucknow | 23, July 2025 : The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the proposal to call the UP State Legislature Monsoon Session 2025 on August 11, 2025 (Monday). Both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will meet for this session.

Last Session Recap

The last session of the state legislature began on February 18, 2025. It continued till March 5, 2025, when both the Assembly and Council adjourned. After that, the session formally ended on March 12, 2025.

Constitutional Requirement for New Session

Why the New Session Is Needed

Under Article 174(1) of the Indian Constitution, there must not be a gap of more than six months between two sessions of the legislature. Since the last sitting was on March 5, 2025, the next sitting must happen before September 5, 2025. So, the date of August 11 has been fixed for the UP State Legislature Monsoon Session 2025.

What the Rules Say

The UP Legislative Assembly Rules of Procedure, 2023, Rule 14, says the Assembly should hold three sessions each year — the Budget, Monsoon, and Winter sessions. Together, these should have at least 90 sittings.

Notice Period for Members

As per Rule 4(2), members should get notice of the session at least seven days before it starts. The Principal Secretary of the Assembly sends this notice.

What Will Be Discussed

The UP State Legislature Monsoon Session 2025 will take up important bills. These include bills to replace ordinances issued after the last session. Some urgent formal and legislative work will also be done.
