Uttar Pradesh climbs to 4th place with 8.51% of India’s factories and strong job growth, shedding its old BIMARU tag

Lucknow | 29, March 2025 : Uttar Pradesh has entered the list of leading industrial states. The Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2023-24 shows UP among Top 5 States for Jobs & Industrial Units. The state holds 8.51% of India’s factories. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka are the only states ahead.

Big boost in employment

UP has also seen strong job growth. Industrial employment in the state grew by 5.92% in 2023-24. In the past ten years, it created over 57 lakh new jobs. This proves that UP is becoming a major hub for workers and industries.

Strong share in national output

UP’s factories are not just increasing in number. They also add to national output. In 2023-24, the state gave 7% of India’s Gross Value Added (GVA). At the national level, industrial GVA rose by almost 12% and production grew by 5.8%.

Key sectors leading the growth

The state is performing well in many industries. These include metals, vehicles, chemicals, food, and medicines. Each of these sectors is pushing UP’s growth further.

Policies and investments driving change

UP’s growth is backed by reforms. The government introduced industry-friendly policies and improved infrastructure. New roads, expressways, and logistics parks are helping industries set up faster. Investors are also finding the state more attractive.

From BIMARU to industrial leader
