Gorkha War Memorial in Gorakhpur to Get ₹44.73 Crore Upgrade

₹44.73 crore project to transform Gorakhpur’s historic Gorkha War Memorial into a vibrant heritage and tourism hub.

Lucknow | 15, August 2025 : The Gorkha War Memorial in Gorakhpur will soon get a major upgrade. It was built in 1928 to honor Gorkha soldiers. Now, it will be turned into a War Memorial and Heritage Area.

The Indian Army and the Uttar Pradesh Museum Directorate signed an MoU yesterday. This will start the work to protect and improve the site.

A Place of Pride

For almost 100 years, the memorial has told the story of Gorkha bravery. It is a source of pride for the city. Many people visit it to pay respect to the soldiers.

New Features in the Plan

The project will add several improvements:

  • New and clean visitor facilities,
  • Better gardens with pathways,
  • Simple and clear information boards,
  • Areas for events and public programs.

These upgrades will make the site more friendly and easier to explore.
